You are beautiful. Naturally.
When you embrace your whole, natural self—flaws, freckles, scars, quirks and all—you radiate a kind of beauty that no amount of makeup or filters can replicate. It's a beauty that comes from within, a confidence that shines through your eyes and radiates in your smile. A beauty that comes from when you snort when you laugh or a sense of happiness when you are unapologetically indulging in that amazing slice of cake.
True happiness and beauty are felt when we embrace our vulnerability. We know that is scary. It takes courage to show our authentic selves, but the rewards are endless, freeing. You no longer have to cover up every imperfection or feel the need to put on a filter to fit into society's view of what is beautiful.
Often, the things we perceive as flaws are actually what set us apart and make us memorable. By embracing our quirks and imperfections, we can cultivate a stronger sense of what self-love is. It's okay to be different; it's what makes us truly special.
"Embrace your weirdness, embrace the things you don’t like about yourself. For a time, for me, that was almost everything. But I’ve learned to embrace all the things I find about myself, if they’re good and even if they’re bad. After all, I fall in love with someone because of their flaws. And I’ve learned to love myself because of my flaws, too." - Cara Delevingne
Embracing our natural self and showing vulnerability is incredibly empowering because it allows us to connect with others on a deeper level and break down the barriers that often keep us feeling isolated. Because how can you truly connect with someone when you are not being your whole, natural self?
Most recently Pamela Anderson has been a liberating example of embracing natural beauty. She has spoken out against the pressure to conform to unrealistic beauty standards and has embraced her natural self with confidence. She is no longer wanting to fight the ageing process calling it ‘Life-ing’ rather than ageing.
Embracing Your Natural Self
Embracing your natural self can have a profound impact on your mental health and overall well-being. Here are a few tips to help you on your journey:
- Take unedited photos: This can help you become more comfortable with your appearance and reduce the desire for perfection.
- Highlight your unique features: Instead of focusing on perceived flaws, celebrate what makes you special. That little scar that you made when you were child, or a birth mark, these are all traits that no one else in the whole world has. Which is kind of cool if you really think about it.
- Practice self-compassion: Be kind to yourself and treat your body with respect. It carries you around all day and allows you to have so many fun experiences.
- Challenge negative perceptions: Don't let societal expectations dictate your worth. Always question why!
- Find role models who inspire you: Look for people who embrace their natural beauty and make you feel empowered.
- Surround yourself with positive people: Surround yourself with people who support and uplift you. We want people who radiate, not drain us!
- Be patient with yourself: It takes time to embrace your natural beauty. Be patient and kind to yourself along the way.
Remember, you are naturally beautiful – say it a few times in the mirror. Embrace your unique qualities and shine brightly because there is no one like you!
