Amber Rose

International Make-Up Artist

Dr.Lipp talks to international make-up artist Amber Rose about all things beauty, makeup essentials and more!

Can you tell us about the chosen look? What was the inspiration for it?

This look was apart of a Spring themed beauty shoot. We incorporated flowers and I think that’s what inspired me to choose the pastel pinks, yellows and blues I used. We knew we wanted to use bright colors on the model because they’d pop beautifully against her skin tone and hair color.

What products did you use to create the look?

Sonia Roselli- Water Balm + Water Elixir, Face Atelier Ultra Pro Foundation, Graftobian HD Powder Palette, Eve Pearl Salmon Concealer, Jouer Cosmetics Tint (discontinued), Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz, Viseart Editorial Palette, Makeup Forever Flash Palette, MAC Cosmetics Strobe Cream + Spice Lip Liner, Dr.Lipp Original Nipple Balm.

Any tips for anyone at home wanting to recreate a similar look?

Here are a few tips on how to create this look. 1. Make sure you have a flat synthetic eyeshadow brush, I like MAC’s 252 brush. Synthetic brushes are great for applying cream based products. 2. Find a a palette with creamy bright colors, I love Makeup Forever’s
Flash Palette. 3. Make sure you set your cream based eyeshadow color with a powder- I used Viseart’s Editorial Palette for this look because the colors are rich and bright. 4. And finally, be sure to have Q-tips for clean up! I love to clean up the sharp angles first and then touch up with a little concealer or foundation.

"My favourite thing about Dr.Lipp is how long it stays on! It makes my job easier since I have to do fewer lip touch ups on my models and it’s perfect on top of any lip liner or color. I’m always so impressed how hydrated and plump it can make any lip."

What would you say your signature beauty look is?

My signature beauty look is usually a very soft and natural glam- I get hired to do this look quite often! I think clients like to see youthful glowing healthy skin and consumers like to see an achievable look they could try at home. I personally love this look because it’s just an enhancement to someone’s natural beauty and brings out their best features.

Here at Dr.Lipp, we make multi-use skincare solutions to keep life simple and reduce our carbon footprint – do you think it’s important to streamline your beauty kit?

Yes, I love multi- use products! As a professional makeup artist, I’m always trying to condense my kit and reduce the amount of products I have to carry from job to job. My favorite multi-use products are ones that I can use on the lip, cheek and eye or discovering I can manipulate a shadow or foundation with a skincare item and change the texture or appearance to make it something new!

What would you be doing if you were not a makeup artist?

If I weren’t a makeup artist I think I would focus more on hair styling which was what I went to school for 15 years ago. When I was younger I wanted to be a wardrobe stylist or model so I’ve always known I wanted to be in the beauty or fashion industry. I love everything that goes into making a beautiful image or making someone feel more confident about themselves so I think I will always be in this industry in some way or another.

What items should everyone have in their kit?

Everyone should have great skincare and a wide color range in foundations/concealers . Yes, colorful eyeshadow palettes are fun and allow you to create fun, bold looks BUT if you don’t have the basics down and aren’t able to accommodate to ALL skin tones/skin types than the overall look won’t be successful. I also highly recommend having enough clean brush sets to accommodate everyone on set instead of stopping to clean the few you might have- this will save SO much time and it’s more sanitary overall. With Covid-19 it’s even more important to be prepped with separate clean tools in separate bags for everyone when you show up and having enough disposables, cleaning products and all proper PPE items. Cleanliness is SO important in this industry.

Who is your dream client?

This is a hard one, I really just love working with everyday people and models on set! I suppose my long term goals are to work on more beauty and skincare campaigns. I’d love to open up a magazine to an advertisement I worked on or to cruise the strip and see my
work on a billboard for a well known makeup brand or luxury fashion house. And for that to be a regular thing, that’d be the ultimate dream for me!

Do you have any career highlights so far?

Being on tour with Prince in 2013 would have to be one of my biggest career highlights. It was such an amazing experience and anything would be hard to top it! I got to travel the world, meet some amazing people, learn how to work under intense pressure and
overall learn a lot about myself as a person and artist that year.

What is a day in the life like for you?

These days when I’m not working I’m usually spending time at home with my boyfriend and our dog and cat. Most likely watching a reality TV show and concocting some sort of meal or cocktail in the kitchen. Covid has kept us indoors most of this year and I’ve
found a new love for cooking! In my down time I’m usually prepping my kit for my next job, cleaning brushes and organizing my kit.

What is the best piece of beauty advice you ever received and what is the best piece you could give?

Less is more! I grew up with a Mom who is a minimalist with her makeup routine and I think that may have stuck with me through the years. A little mascara, a brushed up brow look, tinted moisturizer and bronzer is simple- it does wonders and looks so
youthful! The best advice I could give is to commit to a skincare routine and wear sunscreen- healthy hydrated skin is happy skin!

What are your favourite uses for Dr.Lipp?

I love using the Original Nipple Balm on top of any lip liner or lip color since it gives a plump moisturized look and lasts so long. I’ve also used it on numerous beauty shoots as a dewy highlight on the cheek bone or even on the eyelid- it gives the skin such a glowy
fresh look!
